Migration, Gender and Motherhood: Autobiographical narratives of women who emigrated from Brazil

This article presents an analysis of autobiographical narratives of Brazilian migrant women who are mothers. Considering the letter as a privileged methodological tool to make visible female experiences, these women were asked to write a letter to their children, describing their experience as migrants. The analysis focuses on their motivations and obstacles, showing that the political, social and economic situation in Brazil is the main reason for emigration and that, in the new country, women find it difficult to feel at home, having as a main network of support other Brazilian immigrant women.
