Domingas Lazary Amaral – ‘accused for defending free press’

Como militante feminista, a autora sente a “utilidade” da sua voz na denúncia das condições, físicas e psicológicas em que viviam estas mulheres, bem como dos abusos de que eram vítimas no Depósito Geral dos Degredados de Luanda. Num período em que eram poucas as vozes femininas que se faziam ouvir na imprensa, Lazary ampliou a sua para exigir, tanto das autoridades coloniais como das nacionais, a moralização de procedimentos dentro da instituição e uma justiça adequada à regeneração das condenadas. Uma voz que se tornou incómoda para o poder colonial, que a tentou calar através de atos de censura e processos em tribunal.

Le texte met en évidence l’intervention de l’écrivaine et éducatrice féministe Domingas Lazary do Amaral dans des journaux de la deuxième décennie du vingtième siècle, en faveur des femmes condamnées à peine d’exil en Angola. En tant que militante féministe, l’auteur sent “l’utilité” de sa voix pour dénoncer les conditions physiques et psychologiques dans lesquelles ces femmes vivaient, ainsi que les abus dont elles ont été victimes au Dépôt général des exilés à Luanda. À une époque où peu de voix de femmes étaient entendues dans la presse, Lazary l’avait élargie pour exiger des autorités coloniales et nationales une moralisation des procédures au sein de l’institution et une justice adéquate pour la régénération des damnés. Une voix qui est rapidement devenue inconfortable pour le pouvoir militaire colonial, qui a essayé de le faire taire par la censure et des procès.
