Rape of homeless adolescents in Medellin, Colombia

Homeless situation of adolescent girls happened after they were raped in their own homes. Professionals who work with them should understand what the adolescent girls have been through. Objective: To understand the conditions that caused the sexual violation of the girls and the needs that arise from this situation. Method: Qualitative research with ethnographic interviews (25 interviews). The study was conducted under the principles of confidentiality and respect. Results: The adolescent girls were raped in their own homes what led them to decide to live in the streets. The rape generated physical and psychological needs that were not fulfilled and caused them contradictory feelings. Conclusion: It is important to take into account the adolescent girls’ point of view in order to develop more effective proposals.
