FORCE: Quilting as Feminist Art Practice Against Rape Culture and for the Promotion of Consent

This article addresses the work of the collective FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture, headed by artist and art educator Hannah Brancato and Cherokee journalist and activist Rebecca Nagle, with a critical focus on rape culture and gender violence in the United States and Mexico. The specific focus is the Monument Quilt, initiated in 2014. This contribution is informed by an interview with Hannah Brancato. The methodological support for the article is developed from the research of Julia Bryan-Wilson and Lora J. Bristow on embroidery and sewing as feminist art practices; Suzanne Lacy, Jacqueline Millner and Catriona Moore on community art; and Catharine MacKinnon on consent.
