Girls Speak Out: Adolescent Girls’ Experiences in Physical Education Classes and Interest in Studies in Physical Education and Sport Sciences

Although women represent the majority in higher education, their presence in Physical Education and Sport Sciences degrees has significantly declined in recent years. This qualitative study explores the beliefs and experiences of ten adolescent girls in their Physical Education classes, as well as their knowledge of and intentions to pursue higher education in Sport Sciences. Using semi-structured interviews, this study presents an analysis of their experiences during secondary education and their perceptions of professional opportunities in the sports field. The participants report gender inequalities in Physical Education classes compared to their male peers and reveal limited awareness regarding Sport Sciences in higher education and job prospects in this field.
